Bad Company Corrupts Good Character

1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character”.

We've all heard about "having good character," "building character," and "character traits," but what does it all mean? It is difficult to live a life unaffected by the actions of others. So be cautious when you are in the company of people who are a bad influence. Our nature is likely to be exposed to repetition, and seeing something done practically is more likely to move us to do the same. “A man is known by the company he keeps” Proverbs 13:20 says “ walk with wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble”. As God's people, we must prioritize everything that brings us closer to God in our relationships. If your company does not meet God's standards, look for new partners; otherwise, you risk losing affection with God. Spiritual discipline, training, hard effort, and learning from previous mistakes are all part of the process of developing godly character. Bad company causes problems by destroying the heart, corrupting character, harming reputation, damaging happiness, and hurting the soul. Hebrews 10:25 “not neglecting to meet together, as it is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near”. Run from any situation that is taking you down, far from the behaviours that the Lord requires of you. Do not allow the flesh to rule instead, know that through prayer you can overcome the weakness of your flesh; through the power and work of the holy spirit in your life.
